5 Things Amazon and Medical Packaging Have in Common

Teilen:

With 28% of Amazon buyers making a purchase in 3 minutes or less and 50% of purchases in less than 15 minutes, it’s safe to say that Amazon is one of (if not the most) heavily used online store. This is particularly true during Amazon Prime Days. For years now, Amazon has been considered a best-in-class example for ecommerce practices, cloud services, supply chain management, personalization, and customer service. But, what about packaging? How often do you open the item you have purchased and think about the packaging it was shipped in? In the last couple of years, Amazon has been making strides to improve their packaging and work towards that best-in-class status

So, did you ever think Amazon could be compared to medical packaging? I certainly didn’t. But in fact, the two have more in common than you think especially when it comes to looking at packaging through the lens of waste reduction. Therefore, in honor of Amazon Prime Days, we’re sharing 5 similarities between Amazon packaging and healthcare packaging:

Right-Sizing Your Packaging

Consumers are demanding that their packaging be right-sized to minimize waste without compromising protection. We’ve all received an oversized package in the mail and opened it to find a tiny item inside—same concept applies to healthcare packaging. In the medical packaging industry, right-sizing your packaging has more benefits than just reduced material waste. Watch this webinar to learn the other benefits of right-sizing your packaging.

Nachhaltige Materialien

Amazon has worked to reinvent and simplify their sustainable packaging options. The medical packaging industry is constantly looking at and evaluating our material options. With having to keep patient safety as a top priority, yes, there will be differences, but what better way to get inspired than to look at the packaging you receive.

End-User Experience

Design for Amazon packaging starts with the customer and works backwards to deliver a positive experience. If a customer wants to hold their order to be bundled and save on packaging, they now can. Packaging for the consumer is geared towards being easy to open and recycle. In medical packaging, the end-user experience is often focused on ease of aseptic transfer but more and more an emphasis is being placed on ease of recyclability too. Additionally, packaging that ends up in the hands of the patient has a focus on ease of use, clear instructions, and more intuitive designs.

Supply Chain Considerations

The similarity here is the complexity of both supply chains. It is crucial for both to be efficient and manage inventory appropriately. During COVID we saw what happens when supply chains are impacted

Environmental Concerns

Amazon and the medical packaging industry both face scrutiny over their environmental impact. Both are looking for new ways to innovate and implement more sustainable practices while protecting their products.

Next time you get an Amazon package, maybe this week if you are participating in Prime Days, take a minute to think about the connections between it and medical packaging—I bet you’ll find a few more than just these 5.
