The Ventilator Project

Veröffentlicht am 13. Juli 2020

Tyler Mantel, robotics entrepreneur, creates nonprofit organization to develop new ventilator during COVID-19 pandemic.

In March, when it was clear that there would be shortage of ventilators, Tyler Mantel took a step away from his own work and began The Ventilator Project, a nonprofit organization that includes more than 250 people. Collectively, the group is working to get their ventilator, AIRA, to market. AIRA will solve problems that typical ventilators experience while being less expensive, easy to store, and scalable.

“The people on our project come from companies as disparate as Amazon Robotics and GE Healthcare. We have people from Apple, Google, Clear Motion, and Procter & Gamble—all the way up to the executive levels of these companies,” said Mantel. “The number and the quality of these people who have come out of the woodwork to help solve this global need … that has been the reason we've been successful so far.”

The Ventilator Project anticipates filing for an Emergency Use Authorization with the FDA in the next couple of weeks. Read more on MDDI.
